While wired and wireless headsets have their own pros and cons, recent studies have proven quite a few things. Some of the studies showed that both these types of earphones emit radiation that is not good for our health at all. Moreover, there has been an ongoing debate on wired vs wireless headset radiation and which one is safer.

When you are traveling, it is much easier to go for a wireless headset. They improve the comfort and convenience of your trip. But when you are at home, it is better to use wired headphones. You do not need to keep on charging wired headphones.

Below, we will take a look at which of these types of headphones are the safest to use when it comes to wired vs wireless headset radiation. So let’s get to it!

Wired vs Wireless Headset Radiation: Which is Safer?

We all know that a good set of wireless headphones is the best option when it comes to many everyday life things. But are they safer for our health? Moreover, does it really make a difference when it comes to radiation emitted by headphones?

Both wired and wireless headsets emit some form of radiation while you are using them on your phone or other devices. Is the difference in radiation emitted by your wired and wireless headphones significant enough? Do you need to worry about it and make a distinct choice?

Wired vs Wireless Headphones

Wired headphones still emit a very small amount of EMF because the phone is so much closer to the body. Luckily most of the sound goes through the wires. Therefore, much less radiation is emitted to our bodies, making it much safer.

On the other hand, wireless headphones are not as safe. This is because of the use of Bluetooth signals that so close to the body. Even though your cell phone can be kept away from the body, you are still exposed because of the wireless signal.

While we may think that a wired headset may be safer, there are also the wires, metals that will conduct the RF signal. This means the wired headset can act as an antenna. Therefore, it conducts the signal to go through your brain, which is also not safe.

And if you think of using a hands-free kit, it has the same effect you get with the Bluetooth signal going through your brain. So even that as a way of communication is not very safe to keep the RF waves away from your head.

Newer Technology

The newest version of Bluetooth available to us on newer devices operates at much smaller amounts of radio waves. So Bluetooth 2 does emit much fewer radio signals that go through our brains, making it a little bit safer to use.

To have far fewer radio signals going through our brains, we need to keep our mobile phones away from the body. This cannot be done with a wired headset, so we need to find a wireless method. However, wireless technology still emits EMF radiation.

So regardless of wired vs wireless headsets, we are still exposed to a small amount of radiation that goes through the body. Prolonged exposure to these wireless signals may cause headaches and many other adverse effects on the body, even with the newest Bluetooth technology.

Headsets might be a good idea to remove some of the harmful effects of RF waves away from us. However, they are not perfect. To decide which one of these is the safest is not a simple task, so we need to take a look at the pros and cons.

Pros and Cons of Wireless And Wired Headsets

Pros of Wired Headsets

  • There is very little radiation involved with wired headsets.

Cons of Wired Headsets

  • The wire that is used to conduct the sound can act as an antenna to conduct the RF waves to your head.
  • You still have to keep your smartphone close to you because of the short wire.
  • Radiation is far less with a wired headset than with a wireless.

Pros of Wireless Headsets

  • With a wireless headset, the RF waves of the cell phone are reduced by keeping the cellphone further away from the body.

Cons of Wireless Headsets

  • Wireless headphones will simply bring some EMF to our heads with the wireless signal.
  • The wireless headset will release the waves directly into your ears.

We are solely concerned with the amount of radiation that might be going through the brain while using a mobile device. There are not many differences between wired and wireless. If you take the pros and cons into consideration, it isn’t easy to choose one.

With both these types of headsets, you still get some amount of radiation going through your body and, more importantly, your brain. According to some studies, both wired and wireless headsets will allow some amount of radiation.

There are some safer wired headsets on the market. They come with a ferrite bead added to the base of the cable. This bead of ferrite will absorb the RF radiation. Moreover, it will prevent it from going up the wires to your headphones and brain.

You can buy these ferrite beads loose. Later, you can add them manually to the cable of your wired headset to stay on the safe side. With this small piece added to your headset, it will be much safer than any wireless headset. Because of this, wired headset is the safer option.

Final Thoughts

Looking at all the information gathered in this article, it seems that the safest of the two types of headsets is the wired one. But that is only if you add a ferrite bead to the wire of the wired headset. Without the bead, it is still unsafe.

Wireless headsets are, in general, far more convenient except for the fact that you need to keep them fully charged. But when it comes to protection from radiation, they certainly lack any safety measures to stay safe from radiation at all.

The final verdict then is that a wired headset with a ferrite bead added to the wire is the safest of the two.

Emf was always an intriguing subject for me.
In today's world, we're all exposed to electromagnetic fields of different strengths. I feel it is important to know how to minimize our exposure without sacrificing the things we all love and can not live without, like our phones, tablets, microwaves, etc...I made it my mission to learn as much as possible on the subject first to protect my family and inform others. Browse the articles to get informed. Knowledge is power.
